or, as it's called in real life, Shelly's Loan Co. The mural from the movie is still pretty much intact and has faded very little over the years, although it has been lightly tagged by graffiti. Thankfully, plans are reportedly in place to restore the mural and remove the graffiti.

This is an example of what I call a "botched alteration." It appears as if someone were trying to alter this to spell "REEFER," but perhaps the letters' glue wore out, the alterer was spotted and ran for cover, or whoever did this just gave up.

A very common Red Eye alteration is to take the "FREE" stickers and alter them to read "PEE." This is the Red Eye box that's outside the Walgreens at the triple-intersection of Broadway, Ridge, and Bryn Mawr.

I suspected this wasn't really a Bluesmobile used in the movie, despite the advertisements. Others confirmed to me that indeed it isn't, and not only is it not an original Bluesmobile, it's not even a Dodge Monaco -- someone just glued a Monaco badge to the body!

The Steinbach building on Cookman Avenue is now condos on the upper floors and businesses on ground level. Old Man Rafferty's just opened there a few months ago. It's a good standard American restaurant that has had a presence in New Brunswick for many years.

Tillie lives! Well, it's not the real Tillie that was saved from the Palace; that's still in storage somewhere. But the Wonder Bar does a great job of capturing the look of the Palace.

The merry-go-round is long gone, of course, but the building is being saved. The window glass and the roof have been replaced. There is a temporary wall separating this space from the rest of the casino while that space is being rehabbed. A farmers' market takes place here every Saturday.

The windows were all lit up. Just below is the stage where a band played good Jersey Shore rock. There is also an outdoor bar and restaurant on the walkway that wraps around Convention Hall.

Tim McLoone now owns this place and has restored it to its 1964 glory. The Salt Water Cafe is downstairs, and upstairs is the Supper Club with live entertainment.

The fireworks were dedicated to Danny Federici of the E-Street Band and Madame Marie. Songs played over the speakers during the display, ending with Springsteen's "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)".

This is now a massive fitness and sporting good store. I think they also have a section with vintage gym equipment and Jon Bon Jovi's old Stairmaster (or something like that). The old Woolworths further down the block is now a huge antique store.

I don't know if the bandshell on the roof is going to be rehabbed. The stage is still there, but the bleacher seats have been removed, but that might have just been to repair the roof. Work is still being done, but a few very hip shops have moved in.

Well...dry goop, anyway. I mainly used this CD player in my car, so I used Fun-Tac to keep it stable; that's what the yellow gunk is. I just never had the patience to clean all of it off.
